Lest We Forget
As a former serviceman in Malaya now Malaysia! I am penning a few words to support The Royal British Legion formed in 1921. Our Commander In Chief – HRH The Queen.
This year of November 2013 – The Legion’s anniversaries are as follows:
Saturday November 9th The Festival of Remembrance
Sunday November 10th Remembrance Sunday
Monday November 11th Armistice day
Remembrance Sunday – Parish Church Services, Kettering. Start at 10.50am instead of 10.30am and 3.00pm, as there is a Holy Cross dedication before the 10.50am start – to coincide with two minutes silence.
Please note – Parade assembles 2.00pm prior to the service at the War Memorial. I think on these lines of verse to close!
Remembrance and Armistice silent minutes separate war and peace,
Like sentiments keep nations unknown and known warriors sacred of labours cease,
Pilgrimages of comrades in arms draw near their anthem “O Valiant Hearts” of country dear,
Expectantly the loyal 11.00am booms out honoured again – no
But Poppy wreathes salutes and misty eyes gently the fluttering standards are lowered,
The Last Post sounds of haunting bugle notes – render November air bound,
The final oblation to peace and honour spoken,
Lest we forget our sacred token – at the going of the Sun we will remember them,
For duty, valour and
A nation’s remembrance – our last Poppy emblem.
Vice Chairman, Kettering Branch The Royal British Legion.
