No more rubbish talk
IN order for the work to take place safely, the recycling centre will be closed from Monday January 13 until early summer 2014.
The Rushden HWRC is one of the best used of the Northamptonshire County Council’s ten recycling sites, with about a quarter of a million visits to the centre in 2012/2013.
During this time, people are asked to use alternative sites, such as in Wellingborough, Northampton and Kettering. For location information, visit: www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/hwrc
A partial closure of the site had been considered while the work was taking place, but it would not have been possible to operate the site while keeping both the public and the workforce safe.
Cllr Michael Clarke, Northamptonshire County Council cabinet member for transport, highways and the environment, said: “Many of our recycling sites are now about 30 years old and much more heavily used than when they were first built.
“A result of this is that the Rushden site doesn’t work as well as it could, of course, we recognise that there will be some inconvenience, but I believe the end result will be well worth it.”
The refurbishment will see the introduction of new recycling bays; an additional traffic lane to accommodate more vehicles and an express recycling lane so small items can be dropped off quickly.
