Loss-making steel firm puts jobs at risk
The Government was holding critical talks about the future of the steel industry in the UK this morning.
Up to 500 jobs in Corby’s Tata Steel works hang in the balance as ministers were trying to find a way to rescue them here and at the main plant in Port Talbot, where 5,500 jobs are under threat.
The Government is looking at a potential buyer for Tata Steel, which has revealed it is losing £1million per day. Talks of re-nationalising the works is an option but a spokesman said ‘not a long-term solution’.
