Trading places: centre managers help out behind the counters
MEMBERS of Kettering’s Newlands Shopping Centre management team went back to the shop floor to help their retailers through the busy Christmas period.
Ellandi, owners of the Newlands Shopping Centre, and Workman, Property Managers of the scheme, joined together for the initiative which saw 51 members of staff work in retail outlets across ten of Ellandi’s shopping centres.
The project was a key part of their commitment to engaging with their community and helping retailers during the busiest time of the year.
Retailers at the Newlands Shopping Centre benefitted from the additional help.
Neil Griffin, Newlands Centre manager, gained his ‘Back to the Floor’ experience at both Equivalenza and Pep&Co; Richard Miles, Workman FM at Game & 02; Ben Truman, Ellandi at WH Smith and TK Maxx and Jaya Relwani, marketing manager, Ellandi at Pandora and Goldsmiths.
During the time ‘on the floor’ they tackled an assortment of new tasks including helping at the tills, re-stocking shelves and serving customers.
Neil said: “I had such an enjoyable – albeit busy – day working, spending time both in Equivalenza and Pep &Co. In Pep&Co, I was not only let loose on the tills, but discounted items for the sale the following day and moved stock rails around the store, while at Equivalenza, I gave out samples on the mall and inserted posters in boxes promoting the store.
“While both shops obviously have a totally different range of products, experiencing their business at first hand provided a fantastic insight into the attention to detail and customer service skills everyone working in the shopping centre needs in the busy festive season.”
