Ladies’ boxing sessions launch in Wellingborough
WOMEN in Wellingborough will have the opportunity to have fun and enjoy non-contact boxing for health and fitness with a qualified coach at the town’s Shudan Academy.
The project has been launched after a successful bid from the #NorthantsGirlsCan Fund through Northamptonshire Sport, which aims to support groups, organisations and clubs wishing to provide regular physical activities for women aged 25+.
Jeff Gonsalves, boxing coach from Shudan Martial Arts, said: “Currently, there are no boxing classes in our area for ladies only and, with the success of our female boxers on the international stage, we are sure this will be inspiring more women to take up the sport. These sessions will be focused around improving health and fitness but there will also be opportunities for ladies to attend sparring sessions at the club.”
The weekly sessions launch on Wednesday January 6, 8pm, at the Shudan Academy in Wellingborough. Participants can book onto the courses by contacting Jeff on: 07745 366820 or by email: email@example.com
Northamptonshire Sport has created the #NorthantsGirlsCan Fund to provide initial ‘start up’ grants of up to £500 for organisations across Northamptonshire to access, with the aim of providing more accessible opportunities for women aged 25 and over.
The programme is part of This Girl Can – a nationwide campaign developed by Sport England and delivered in partnership with a wide range of organisations, which aims to get women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size and ability.
Other organisations and clubs in the county can apply for the fund via the Northamptonshire Sport website: northamptonshiresport.org/northants-girls-can where you can also view an example application form for a successful project as a guide.
