I purchased a copy of a newspaper entitled RUSHDEN. I have scanned this paper several times and try as I might I cannot find any articles related to RUSHDEN. We had a wonderful Party in the Park a couple of weeks ago – no picture.
W’bro, Kettering, Corby, Desborough, Greton, Weston Favell, Northampton, Weldon, Cheshire, Rothwell, Pitsford, Burton Latimer, Daventry – what is the matter with Rushden, will we always be the poor relatives?
We have lovely parks and museums – please bring us back all the news and pictures!
B. Lilley (Mrs)
Thank you for taking the trouble to write to us. We are a very small family business trying to gather what we term ‘Hyper Local News’ – community news from the people of Rushden. We do try our best to search out stories and pics, sometimes we fail sometimes we are successful. Gathering truly local news relies to a certain extent on the people in the area and their willingness to share their stories, contacting us either by letter, email or telephone. If its news and of interest to the community we will publish. We are looking for community writers to help with the news gathering in Rushden, perhaps you know of someone?
Once we have those local stories, news and tips flowing in your Rushden Extra Local will be tremendous. Mrs Lilley perhaps you might want to consider being a Rushden community writer
I write regarding the 12th July – 26th July edition of Rushden Extra Local where much of its content relates to Wellingborough (and the rest of the county) so it should not be masquerading as a Rushden edition, it does NOT even have a Rushden lead story!! (And Party in the Park is the Wellingborough event).
Perhaps your paper should be renamed NORTHANTS EXTRA (or did the relevant “Rushden” pages finish up in a different edition? As there really needs to be “Rushden” qualify as a Rushden edition or even as a Wellinborough/Rushden joint edition.
In comparison to an earlier edition this latest one is not fit for purpose and needs a drastic makeover.
Also the paper does not seem to be available ‘reliably’ at newsagents to be classed as a regular paper – these points I draw to
At one point I began to wonder if the paper had gone out of business when not seen for over a month at the newsagents I use.
Hoping for a better issue next time (including “Rushden” coverage).
Thank you for taking the trouble to write to us at Extra Local.
You raise many points within your letter; I will attempt to answer them as straightforwardly as I can.
Sometimes content floods in other times not, to a certain extent we rely on people such as yourself to either write in, email, or telephone us with any community based stories that you think Rushden readers would find of interest.
Going forward we are hoping to build our list of community writers and photographers in Rushden, we are keen to recruit what we would call ‘citizen journalists’ and photographers.
As regards the newsagents – our Rushden edition can be found in the following outlets; Bedford Road Post Office, Euro Off Licence, Higham Newsagents, Dillons, South Stores, Barry Thomas News, Rushden Mini Market, Asda, Premier, One Stop, WHSR, P R Newsagents, Tesco Rushden, Waitrose Rushden, Welcome Services , Croyland Motors.
And at a cover price of 30p I am sure you will agree that this is a fair price and extremely good value for a local newspaper.
‘No’ we have not gone out of business, we are a small business passionate about local business and local news and with any new initiative such as the Rushden Extra Local it’s our own funds that take the strain. We are constantly trying our best to give you a value product but it does take time to get it right.
David, we really do appreciate the time and trouble you have taken to write to us and we want more, please keep it up!
