Thousands of reasons to say ‘We’re amazing’!
‘WE continue to do amazing things across Gretton Homes and that’s just what we did recently through two fundraising events for the PWS Association.’
Those were the delighted words sent in to Extra Local by Gretton Homes, after a cheque was presented to the PWSA (Prader-Willi Syndrome Association) for £1,241 following on from a large donation last year of £2,273.
Gretton Homes organised a Christmas raffle raising £724. The draw took place on December 18 with the top prize of £250 being won by the parents of someone living at Gretton Homes. This followed the Clare House hike earlier in 2015, which raised £517.
There are further plans for yet more PWSA fundraising in 2016 with service manager Eve Price planning to organise a quiz night at Gretton Village Hall. The hall will also host Gretton Homes’ annual summer party fundraiser in July.
Gretton Homes also helped support two PWSA Christmas parties for the London and North West regions. The PWSA’s Sharon McCall passed on a ‘massive thank you’ to everyone at Gretton Homes for their support with helping to pay for the costs on the day for both parties.
Gretton Homes is part of the Consensus family of services – providing specialist support for people with the rare congenital disorder Prader-Willi Syndrome. This is characterised by a constant desire to eat, which can lead to dangerous weight gain, restricted growth, reduced muscle tone, learning difficulties and behavioural problems. The service at the Grade 2 listed Gretton House has been supporting people with PWS since 1982 and regularly fundraises for the PWSA charity.
Karen Wilkinson visited Gretton House on Wednesday February 3 to collect the cheque and said: “The PWSA would like to thank everyone involved for raising such a fantastic amount of money.”
